ISWA passionately acknowledges that the acquisition of another language stands as a profound gateway to a richer comprehension of our world. We firmly believe that languages are a vital part of our global community, and their significance cannot be overstated.
For newcomers to our school, a Placement Test is a vital step to chart their linguistic journey. Beyond the classroom, we strive to offer our students immersive cultural experiences, celebrate Languages Week and enhance their connection to the languages they learn.
Primary Years Programme (Primary School)
From the earliest stages of education in our Primary Years Programme, ISWA immerses our students in the beauty of language. We offer French and Spanish language classes, nurturing linguistic growth from Kindergarten through Year 6, with students eagerly attending three lessons each week.
Middle Years Programme (MYP)
As students progress into our Middle Years Programme (MYP), French and Spanish become integral components of our academic curriculum. From Year 7 to Year 10, our students embrace the richness of these languages through five lessons weekly. We firmly believe that language acquisition is a journey, and we tailor it to each student’s ability, with six distinct phases ranging from emergent to proficient learners.
DIPLOMA PROGRAMME (DP)
In our Diploma Programme (DP), ISWA continues to nurture linguistic growth for students in Year 11 and Year 12. Language courses offered at both Standard and Higher Levels include Spanish Ab Initio, Spanish B, and French B. Students devote themselves to language studies with four lessons per week at Standard Level and five lessons per week at Higher Level, further enriching their linguistic prowess.
At ISWA, we firmly believe that languages are the keys to unlocking the world and fostering deeper connections and understanding among our global citizens.
We wish to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land we are on, the Whadjuk (Perth region) people and pay our respects to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge, respect and seek to learn from their wisdom, continuing culture and the contribution they make to the life of this city and this region.
